Mojibake or "unintelligible sequence of characters" (文字化け?, IPA: [modʒibake]) (from Japanese: 文字 (moji) "character" + 化け (bake) "change") is the happenstance of incorrect, unreadable characters shown when computer software fails to render text correctly according to its associated character encoding.
